2023 Kia Stinger Review | Midsize Sports Sedan
Some cars are made for commuting. Others are made for adventure. Then there’s the 2023 Kia Stinger. It is made for driving enthusiasts who want something fast that can still handle the daily routine.
This model year the emphasis is on Kia Stinger GT styling. The sedan comes in GT-Line, GT1, and GT2 trim levels. Two engine choices offer the kind of response you’d expect from a premium sports sedan.
How would the Stinger fit your lifestyle? Find out in this review.
GT-Line Trim Level
From the starting line, the Stinger GT Line is a lush, well-furnished base trim. Leather seats and cloth-covered pillars make it soft and inviting. Smart Ventilation tech enhances the dual-zone automatic climate controls. The keyfob provides keyless entry and a remote start feature.
A 12-way power chair keeps the driver comfortable. The Stinger cockpit has a 4.2-inch driver’s display and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Front seat passengers have a six-way adjustable chair with optional power options. Both positions are heated seats.
The second row is remarkably hospitable. Legroom is 36.4 inches. Comfort is enhanced by rear AC vents and a center armrest. Connectivity is easier with a second-row USB port.
Adding to everyone’s comfort, an acoustic windshield quiets the road. Solar glass blocks the sun.
Infotainment System
The new Kia touch screen is bigger, and it has better voice recognition features. Standards include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has all the standards a person needs for entertainment: Bluetooth, HD Radio, SiriusXM connectivity, and UVO Telematics. Built-in satellite navigation is on board to help you find your next adventure behind the wheel of the GT models.
Some trim levels add a bigger driver’s screen for a more digitized cockpit. The 9-speaker audio system can be upgraded to a 15-speaker, 720-watt set-up. Harman Kardon technology includes Clari Fi and Quantum Logic. There are two rows of door tweeters, under-seat subwoofers, and a 12-channel external amplifier.
Sportback Size and Utility
Many sports sedans can offer nothing in the way of utility. The 2023 Kia Stinger is actually quite useful for hauling. That’s because it is a sportback with a 23.3-cubic foot cargo hold.
The versatile Kia has underfloor storage and cargo hooks to make it easier to use. The area opens up to 40 cubic feet with the folding second row bench.
You can compare the Stinger’s hold to the trunks of rival sports sedans. For instance, the Dodge Charger trunk measures 16.5 cubic feet. The Nissan Maxima trunk is even smaller at 14.2 cubic feet.
Energetic Driving Fun
With a rear-wheel drivetrain, the Stinger brings a European emphasis on driving fun. The turbocharged base engine behaves more like a V6. Output is 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. This Stinger can sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a mere 5.2 seconds.
The 2022 Kia Stinger was the first to have this upgraded turbo. It provides 45 horsepower over the 2021 model year. For fast shifts, it is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This sports sedan has paddle shifters to allow driving enthusiasts to have more fun behind the wheel.
Handling is enhanced by high performance dampers in all positions. The turbo technology keeps fuel use to a minimum for this speedy ride. To reduce fuel waste in the city, the engine pauses during long idles, such as fast food drive-thrus and redlights.
Top Line Performance
Even speedier, 2023 Stinger GT1 and GT2 trim levels have a twin turbo V6 engine. This finely tuned V6 unit produces power like a V8. Drivers can command 368 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.
The automatic transmission gains launch control. This fun device builds the torque rate just before the Stinger takes off. This speeds up its 0-60 mph sprint. An electronic variable exhaust system provides the soundtrack for driving fun.
Variable-ratio steering sharpens the handling response to stop understeer and oversteer. Rear-wheel drive comes with a limited-slip differential. Brembo brakes and red calipers assist with faster stopping times.
GT1 Trim Level Package
The GT1 trim level adds more desirable features. The driver has a Smart Key and a keyfob remote starter. The cockpit gains push button start and more ambient lighting. Front seat passengers have an 8-way power chair. The sunroof has a wide-open feature for more natural air on our pleasant Phoenix AZ winter days. Aluminum dresses the center fascia, the scuff plates, and the sport pedals.
You can choose all-wheel drive to assist with all-weather driving. Electronic AWD technology alters wheelspin on individual tires using torque vectoring. This provides more stability and traction without necessarily slowing the car’s progress.
GT2 Trim Level Package
GT2 trim levels add premium Nappa leather patterned upholstery. The 10-way driver’s power chair is updated to a memory-enabled 16-way power seat. The passenger power chair is upgraded to a 12-way feature. There are two rows of heated seats and front ventilated seats.
The Kia Stinger GT2 driver’s cockpit gains a memory-enabled power-tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel and a larger driver’s display. It also has the Harman Kardon premium audio system, and an advanced driver’s display.
An adaptive suspension is standard on all Stinger GT2 trim levels. This feature allows for smoother progress even at higher speeds and on rougher surfaces. It also ensures good ride quality in this cushy cabin.

Driver Aids and Parking Assistance
Fun to drive, the Stinger is also safe to operate. Its federal safety rating is five stars. In addition, it has crash avoidance features and parking assistance. This sports sedan has special anti-lock brake features with fade compensation.
The top Kia forward collision avoidance system is on board. An emergency autobrake and steering assist are designed as back-ups to a warning system for stopping cars, certain junction dangers, cyclists on the road, and even pedestrians stepping into the car’s lane.
A lane keeping assist and blind spot warning are among the ways the car tries to help the driver maintain a safe trajectory and avoid collision scenarios. The Stinger has adaptive cruise control and semi-automated driver assistance.
Parking assistance includes a collision avoidance autobrake with a rear cross traffic alert. You can also get front and rear parking sensors. The 2023 Stinger GT 2 has a 360-degree camera system and a head-up display.
Exterior Features
The sporty style of the 2023 Kia Stinger GT exterior is enhanced by numerous high quality features. In addition to the full LED exterior lighting, there are puddle lamps in the power-heated, power-fold mirrors. Rain-sensing wipers respond to drops of rain.
GT2 trim levels are even better equipped. They have auto-dimming mirrors and bi-function project LED headlights. Dynamic low-beam headlight assist is an advanced feature that regulates the light for better night travel.
Ownership Value
One way the Kia Stinger stands out is its remarkable warranties. You’ll find few rivals with the long warranties that are standard on every Kia. This sports car is covered for up to 60,000 miles and 5 years by the limited warranty. It is covered up to 100,000 miles and 10 years by the powertrain warranty.
While there are many sport sedans, the 2023 Kia Stinger manages to be unique by blending sporty appeal, attractive appointments, and actual utility. Check out our inventory or visit our showroom to discover just how exciting the Stinger is.
