New for 2023
A larger, more refined infotainment touch screen has more sophisticated built-in navigation.
Higher models offer dual 12-3 inch screens including digital instruments. This easily challenges the tech found on luxury SUVs.
Available camera systems can send live footage via a blind spot monitor or surround view monitor. The driver’s mirror can show live footage from an available rearview camera monitoring system.
Also new this year, the tow ratings have gone up to 5,500 pounds. This is due to the introduction of powerful off-road ready models. Shoppers can now choose the X-Line which slots in after the LX, S, and EX or the X-Pro which slots in between the Telluride SX and the SX-Prestige.
Car and Driver gives the 2023 model a rare 10 out of 10 rating. They write that it is setting the standard for its class. You’ll know what you think if you take a test drive at Peoria Kia.
More Sophisticated Tech
Longer and more sophisticated than ever, the navigation touchscreen is now 12.3 inches. Using a horizontal format, it’s easier on the eyes. With artificial intelligence, this system is ready to learn from the driver.
Connected routing is a server-based system, allowing it to be updated easily. It learns familiar routes over time. It makes fact-based predictions that take into account the driver’s habits as well as road conditions and delays.
This system works with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It has standard HD Radio and satellite radio connectivity. Tellurides have expanded what the Kia Connect Digital Key can do. This system works with your smartphone like a remote starter. It reduces the need for the physical key.
Furthermore, the Digital Key now works with Samsung Galaxy phones and iPhones. It also works with Apple smartwatches. This system makes it easy for family members to share the key as necessary.
More Semi-Automated Driving
New for 2023, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist is a good partner to the semi-autonomous systems available on the Telluride. It is a helpful warning when the speed limit drops or the set cruise control speed exceeds the speed limit.
Drivers can set the system to make automatic adjustments when adaptive cruise control or the more advanced Highway Drive Assist is active. Kia has made the cruise function more sophisticated in other ways as well. Smart Cruise Control-Curve uses navigation to anticipate what’s coming next mile after mile.
Highway Driving Assist 2 is an even more advanced semi-autonomous feature. It combines SCC-C with lane following technology.
This vehicle benefits from the expanding abilities of the forward collision avoidance system. Standard on the Telluride, this system covers slowing cars, pedestrians and cyclists. It has a newer Junction Turning capability which recognizes if a car turns left across the Telluride’s path.
Evasive steering assist is designed to help steer the 2023 Telluride away from crash dangers without moving the 3 row ride into another collision danger. This system reacts to large obstacles as well as people and vehicles. In regular crash tests, the 2022 Telluride was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
New Off-Roading Prowess
To turn the 2023 Kia Telluride into a trail ride, there are new X-Line and X-Pro trims. It starts with improved ground clearance of 8.4 inches, rather than the standard 8 inches. Likewise, approach and departure angles have been sharpened for better off-road travel.
A self-leveling rear suspension cushions the ride. Drivers can feel more confident about the handling response as a result. X-Line models have bridge-type rails that allow for roof hauling. X-Pro models add a tow mode, shift logic, and trailer sway mitigation. These features, along with heavy-duty cooling, allow this Telluride to claim the full 5,500 tow rating.
For off-road travel, all-wheel drive gains an AWD lock to split the power among all four tires evenly. On the trail, this creates grip where it is needed most and helps propel the Telluride over loose dirt or desert sand.
Modern Exterior Colors and Styling
Although the Telluride design was only two years old, Kia chose to make it even more modern. At the curb, onlookers will notice the new vertical headlamps on either side of a redesigned grille. Changes continue along the sides and rear with updates such as revised bumpers, door garnish trim and new tail lamps.
New exterior colors are distinctive and interesting. You can personalize the look of your family ride with Midnight Lake Blue or Jungle Wood Green. There’s also a racy Dawning Red on some trim levels. New wheel designs include the 20-inch alloys in a gloss black finish on the new Telluride X-Line.
Cabin Size and Seating
Besting the Honda Pilot, Toyota HIghlander, and other rivals, the Kia offers best-in-class legroom on the second row. The Telluride driver enjoys 44.1 to 44.4 inches while the second-row passenger enjoys 42.3 inches. That’s plenty for teens or adults.
The 8-person layout is standard on the most affordable model. It’s also standard on the EX. The S and SX models offer the 7-person layout with center captain’s chairs. On all models, the rear occupant alert is designed to make sure caregivers check the back rows. This system will also notify drivers via the Kia Access app.
Interior Color Schemes
Adding value to the least expensive package,SynTex is standard on the S base edition. Leather and Nappa leather are standard or available as you climb the trim ladder. These luxurious fabrics are offered in a number of color schemes.
2022 color schemes include black SynTex with a black upper and lower dash. The gray SynTex upholstery has an upper black dash and a lower gray dash. Leather is offered in butterscotch, Espresso brown, gray or black with a soft touch color-matched dash. Nappa leather comes in a darker Dune brown as well as black and gray color schemes.
For 2023, there are five Nappa leather options with premium stitching. X-Line models are offering new terracotta and sage green interior options.
Favorite Features
All Phoenix AZ drivers are sure to like the ventilated front seats available on the Telluride. However, what’s really surprising is that the 2nd-row captain’s chairs can also be outfitted with power ventilation.
Driver Talk is a built-in microphone system that lets Mom or Dad talk to the kids in the back seat. When it’s time for naps, the special entertainment system has a special Quiet Mode.
An Open Skies Dual Sunroof makes the Telluride even more fun for families. It makes it feel more like an open air ride when the weather permits it. Another 2023 addition is the new auto-close function for the smart power liftgate. That’s sure to make busy owners happy.
Performance
Telluride drivers command 291 horsepower from a LAMBDA V6 engine. This engine delivers 262 pound-feet of torque that drives the front wheels. An 8 speed automatic transmission ensures crisp shifts.
Drive modes include smart, Eco, comfort and sport. This allows drivers to alter response for different driving situations or moods. A 4-wheel suspension provides the ride quality and handling response that is needed in a big 3 row SUV.
In the Telluride review at US News and World Report, critics note that the drivability is like a luxury SUV. This is due to a suspension that soaks up pavement imperfections while it also adds to the overall stability on turns. When you need precision steering, such as parking maneuvers, the SUV responds with the right heft. The brakes also inspire confidence in the busy family driver.
