Once a citrus farm, the area was purchased in 1978 for development and annexed in 1979 by Glendale. The city is now home to 250,000 residents. Of those, about 2700 live in Arrowhead homes or condominiums.
When it was first developed, it was advertised as having wild mountain views. Certainly this community is nestled alongside the wild Arizona of legends and movies. It borders Thunderbird Conservation Park to the North and Deer Valley Petroglyph to the west.
The community is fairly settled with little land for new housing. It thrives off of its reputation and location. Surrounding communities include Woodridge, West Glen, Eagle Heights, and the Bell/Greenway Neighborhood. Dovebrook Ranch and Westbrook Village are to the east. The well known retirement village Sun City is nearby.
There are plenty of jobs in the area, including financial firms such as Discover and Wells Fargo. Insurance is a big employer with firms such as USAA, AAA, and State Farm. Other big employers include Honeywell, Abrazo, and Arizona State University.
Route 101 curves along to the west and north. The area is served by the Arrowhead Hospital. Area high schools include Centennial and Mountain Ridge.

Things to Do in Arrowhead Ranch
The Bell Road Retail Corridor runs along to the north, and this is where our Arrowhead Ranch AZ Kia dealership is located. To the south, there’s the P83 Entertainment District and the Arrowhead Towne Center.
For a night out, there is an 18-theater cinema or live theater, such as the Arizona Broadway Theatre. The Peoria Performing Arts Center offers even more variety and is home to the TheatreWorks acting company.
The Peoria Sports Complex brings pro baseball for spring training. Not only is it home to two major league teams, but it hosts the Cactus League. The Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres each have large clubhouses there.
From February through November, there is always some sports activity at the complex. This includes the Fall Baseball League and the hometeam Peoria Javelinas.
You can swing a club at Arrowhead Country Club Golf Course or the Legend at Arrowhead. There are many other courses near the neighborhood. These include Riverview Golf Course, Peoria Pines Golf Course, Desert Mirage Golf Course, and the 500 Golf Club at Adobe Dam.
Places to Go Near Arrowhead Ranch
The neighborhood’s northwest Phoenix area location is an advantage in many ways. Its location northwest of Phoenix puts it in easy reach of I-17 toward Coconino National Forest. Lake Pleasant Regional Park is easily reached via route 74 off of I-17.
You really don’t have to go far to discover Arizona wilderness. The Phoenix Sonoran Preserve, Peoria Regional Preserve, and Phoenix Mountain Preserve are nearby. Even if you don’t want to get out of the car, you can enjoy the scenery. One favorite route follows East Sonoran Drive through the Cave Buttes Recreation Area.
From Arrowhead Ranch, it’s an easy drive to the Grand Canyon National Park, approximately 212 miles. If you prefer nightlife instead of wildlife, it’s 278 miles to Las Vegas, Nevada.
The beautiful town of Sedona is 105 miles north via I-17. If you want a change of climate, you might head further to Flagstaff.
